Follow our "do's and don'ts" to help us settle your claim as quickly and effectively as possible

Do
    Contact us straight away
º   if someone makes a claim against you
º   if you become aware of something which may lead to a claim
º   if any allegations are made against you, even if you believe these to be groundless
    Notify us immediately
º   it's vital that you tell us straight away so that we can determine coverage and ensure the claim is dealt with in the best way possible
Provide as much useful information as possible
º   you know the situation best and we need you to explain it to us
º   you have all the documentation which we need to help us analyse any claim
º   we need to know the background; the various people involved; the amount of money at issue and your comments on the situation
    Give us your views
º   do you think the problem is your fault?
º   if not, whose fault do you think it is?
    Keep us in the loop
º   make sure that you keep us up to date with all developments
Tell us if you want to recover overdue fees through the Courts
º   whilst the policy doesn't cover this, your claim for fees is likely to be met with a counterclaim which may well be covered- we need to know just in case
Don't
Wait until it's time to renew your policy to tell us about a claim
Wait until proceedings are served on you
  º   tell us straight away
º   in many cases, potential claims can be resolved more quickly and easily without either side resorting to legal proceedings
Admit liability without talking to us first
º   if you think you have made a mistake, you must talk to us first to make sure that this is what has caused the loss
Offer to settle a claim without talking to us first
º   you must talk to us first and make sure we agree
Tell claimants or client of our involvement
º   knowing that insurers are involved often raises expectations and means that claims can take longer and cost more to resolve
Instruct solicitors before talking to us
º   the policy only covers costs (legal and otherwise) which we have agreed in advance
